My secret is out!
Two nights ago, I debuted a sneak peek of my Haitian Hotline Bling on IG Live when thee Jessie Woo chose me at random to sing on her “RonaRokie” (Corona Karaoke) show.
What’s my secret? Because MUSIC & LAUGHTER are my favorite forms of therapy, I LOVE translating popular American songs into Haitian-Creole. It’s hilarious! I rarely translate word for word. I express the same emotions/message as the writer and apply cultural phrasings. Even if you don’t understand Haitian-Creole, I hope my homemade visuals make you laugh.
Here are the video, lyrics and credits to my version of Drake’s Hotline Bling, Blengendeng.
Blengendeng
Ou te konn rele m nan telefòn
Lè swa lè ou bezwen lanmou m
Rele m nan telefòn
Lè swa lè ou bezwen lanmou m
Lè telefòn nan blengendeng
Mwen konnen ou sou bwenzeng
Lè telefòn nan blengendeng
Mwen konnen ou sou bwenzeng
Depi m kite peyi a cheri ou
Gentan lage kò ou nenpòt kijan
Chak swa w ap pran lari avèk Ti Jean
Pa panse w ap vin mande m ba w rezidans
Paske depi m kite peyi a cheri ou ou ou
Ou gentan bliye tout sa n te genyen
W ap pale m mal e w ape plenyen
Tafya genlè pran tèt ou, kite fimen
